Inactivity Timeout

The gap after which a visit is considered over, 30 minutes by default in most analytics tools.

All glossary terms

The inactivity timeout is the gap after which a visit is considered over. The common default is 30 minutes: no new events for 30 minutes, and the next event starts a new session.

Why It Matters

It changes your session count. It also decides when session-level values such as duration and exit page can be final, because a session can’t be finished until the timeout has passed.
