A hit is a single request sent from a website to a tracking server. When a page loads and gtag reports a page_view, that request is one hit.
A hit is raw. It carries parameters such as the page URL, a client ID and a timestamp, but on its own it has no analytical value. The tracking pipeline turns hits into events, groups events into sessions, and writes them to storage.
Why It Matters
Hit volume is what tracking infrastructure is sized and often priced by. It’s also the level where filtering happens: bot traffic, internal traffic and test environments are easiest to exclude before hits become events.
In d8a.tech
Every hit becomes exactly one event row. Receivers accept hits in the GA4, Matomo and d8a.tech protocols.
