Tracking Protocol

The request format a tracker uses to send hits, such as the GA4 protocol or the Matomo protocol.

All glossary terms

A tracking protocol is the format a tracker uses to send hits: which URL it calls, how parameters are named, and how values are encoded. The two most common on the web are the GA4 protocol (what gtag and Google Tag Manager send) and the Matomo protocol (matomo.php).

Why It Matters

A collector that speaks the same protocol as your existing tracker can receive your data without any changes to your tags. That’s the difference between a migration project and a configuration change.

In d8a.tech

d8a.tech receives the GA4 protocol, the Matomo protocol and its own d8a.tech protocol, so you can keep your existing tracking or switch to the d8a.tech web tracker.
